In a forum I participate in someone brought up the subject of using biodiesel fuel and whether it was safe for use in a Chevy Duramax. A member replied that she had asked a knowledgeable friend about it and he said biodiesel is safe to use but the question you should be asking is 'Will using biodiesel fuel void your warranty." He referred readers to ezbiodiesel.com. Most major engine companies do allow blends up to 20 percent biodiesel/80 percent petroleum-based diesel (B20).
If you are thinking of using biodiesel you might want to read the full answer and doublecheck what your owner's guide says about what fuel your engine is designed for. Jaimie Hall-Bruzenak

Last year, Cummins officially approved blends up to B20 in their engines. See Biodiesel.org for the whole story.
