Now here's good news for RVers - Michigan has a bill before the state legislature that is expected to be approved that will end state park entrance fees. According to the RV Daily Report, entrance fees will be eliminated. There will be an optional $10 add-on vehicle registration fee. There is no explanation at this time as to how this would work. It does say optional, but it sounds like they do expect people to pay it and provide additional funds that will be used for maintaining state park facilities.
It does not mean that camping will be free, though. Go to the Michigan State Park Web site to see costs for camping in various locations. Besides camping with hookups, there is dispersed camping in state forests at no charge.
When many states around the country are closing selected state parks or talking about selling them off or turning them over to others to run, this news from Michigan is encouraging. Attracting visitors will bring tourist dollars to their state and spending in the parks. You've got the right idea, Michigan! Jaimie Hall Bruzenak
