According to Interstate Batteries, after purchasing your deep cycle RV batteries:
- New batteries should be given a full charge before use.
- New deep-cycle batteries need to be cycled several times before reaching full capacity (50-125 cycles, depending on type). Capacity will be limited during this period.
- For best battery life, batteries should not be discharged below 80 percent of their rated capacity. Proper battery sizing will help avoid excessive discharge.
Are these statements TRUE or FALSE?
- As batteries age, the maintenance requirements change.
- Deep-cycle batteries may need to periodically be equalized.
- Extreme temperatures can substantially affect battery performance and charging.
- Completely charge the battery before storing and before starting after storage.
- When not in use, boost your battery every two months.
All of the above are true. If you missed any or need further explanation, Interstate Batteries offers a number of tips for care of your batteries and to extend their life. See their battery maintenance tips for RVers. Otherwise, you could be replacing your batteries sooner rather than later. Jaimie Hall Bruzenak
