When we were in Australia, while at Uluru we heard the story of a woman convicted of murder when she told authorities, "A dingo ate my baby." According to Lindsay, the mother, she heard her baby cry out and when she went to check, saw a dingo. The baby was gone. She was later found guilty of murder - no one believed her. The incident was dramatized in a Meryl Streep movie, "Cry in the Dark." Authorities had held three coroner's inquests and, we reported in February, that one more was scheduled.
The last inquest was finally concluded. The inquest found that a dingo not only could be responsible for baby Azaria's death, but no other conclusion could be reached. It has been more than 30 years since the incident happened. You can read/watch videos of several portions of the case and there is a link to Lindsay's (the mother) lawyer's tie. His tie was embroidered with dingos!
Signs are now posted at Uluru warning of potential dingo attacks, with instructions to rum to the cement block laundry room if the siren sounds. Nervous night!I would have much rather been in an RV than a tent.
It certainly seems possible that a hungry dingo could grab a few week old baby and drag it off. I'm glad that after 30 years, Azaria's parents have some peace and their names cleared. Jaimie Hall Bruzenak
